Jan Jelinek with Sven-Åke Johansson

Seven dictaphones and a Turkish cymbal, concert by Jan Jelinek and Sven-Åke Johansson, 27 September 2023 at Galerie Sexauer, Berlin.

For this performance, Jan Jelinek used seven dictaphones, each containing the recording of a pure sine wave tone. Like a slow motion thimblerigger, he moved these devices in front of two directional microphones, causing their overtone spectrums to shift. The resulting drones were accompanied by Sven-Åke Johansson playing a 21-inch cymbal with a bow.

The concert was part of the exhibition "Wenn die Sirenen heulen (it’s on us)", curated by Anne Mundo and Dirk Teschner.
